The study takes 12 weeks, involving 96 overweight men and women. A total of 48 subjects suggested a special drink with alginate as a dietary supplement them three times a day, before eating the main course. While 48 others drank a placebo beverage without alginate.
The result, as many as 80 subjects achieving weight loss is much greater than those who drank the same drink without alginate. On average the subjects who ate seaweed fibers can lose weight up to 1.7 kilograms.
Weight loss was due to decreased body fat percentage due to alginate which forms a gel in the stomach and strengthen the satiety signals to the brain. Stomach feel full, so the desire to eat will be reduced.
